Please note you must be a Howard County, Maryland, resident to acquire a plot with Columbia Gardeners. If you submit multiple applications for more than one gardening site, only the first one received will be considered.
We have three garden sites, two of which have organic-only sections. Locations and additional information are provided below. You can only select one.

Here are some details about the gardens:

  • Plots are approximately 20’x25’.
  • The rental fee is $50/year for a standard plot. There is a limit of one plot per household.
  • There are also options for half plots, raised beds, and senior discounts.
  • Water is included in the rental fee.
  • The organic-only sections at Elkhorn and Long Reach have an additional one-time fee of $90 as they have a perimeter fence and individual plots are not fenced.
  • Mulch/woodchips are often available for use at your plot.
  • Each gardener is required to provide 4 hours of volunteer service per year. There are a variety of jobs available for all GardeningLevels of physical ability.
  • There is a gate with a lock at each of the gardens.
  • Gardeners are responsible for tilling, planting, watering, weeding and maintaining their own plots.
  • Some plots are already fenced; in other cases you may need to provide your own fence.
  • If you pay your rental fee, maintain your garden and perform your service hours, you will be able to rent the same plot in future years.
